In
their 62-82 degree, gravel-bedded greenhouses, the Coopers are
harvesting tomatoes from mid-October into late July. The greenhouse
tomato plants are rooted in a soil-less culture and receive water
and fertilizer via irrigation and pesticides via fine-droplet
blast spraying. For lack of bees and wind in the greenhouses,
Tim previously used a leaf blower to ruffle the pollen from flower
to flower. Tim now introduces bees into the houses which has
significantly increased pollination. He also retards the humidity
to foster more pollination. |
